DAWLISH man Alan Fishlock is having his head shaved to show his appreciation for the charity that has helped his fiancee, Lesley, as she bravely battles pancreatic cancer.

Alan will be holding the sponsored head shave on July 30 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

His fiancee, Lesley Naish, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Lesley, a dedicated carer and loving daughter, met Alan in 2007 after moving in with her mother in Ilfracombe.

Following the diagnosis, Lesley continued to care for her sick mother – a true testament to her character.

She was also given the support and care that she needed by the nurses at Macmillian.

Alan said: ‘It’s great that Macmillan has stepped in and I really wanted to show my support.’

Once Lesley started her course of chemotherapy, Alan decided that a head shave was the best way to show his solidarity with his fiancee while also raising money for the charity that had helped them so much:

‘When someone’s dealing with something like this, you really want to help, but there’s not much you can do, all you can do is help where you can and do a few jobs.

‘I thought the next best thing is raising a bit of money for Macmillan because they’ve been so good.’

Alan was humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response he received, he said: ‘It’s surprising because when you start talking to people, you realise that everybody has known somebody who has had cancer, some survive and some don’t.’

So far, Alan has raised £310 of his £500 target, with the head shave taking place at Mel’s Hairdressers in Dawlish.

One of his priorities after the shave is go and buy a hat for the hot weather.
