A band of dedicated people are working together to bring a youth centre facility back to Heathfield.

The centre, which has been closed for some time and has since been badly vandalised, is sited on land owned by nearby business Sparkworld, who have loaned its use to the Heathfield community.

It is hoped the centre, comprised of modular offices and an outside play area will once again provide a much-needed place for youngsters to meet and relax.

Bovey Tracey town councillor George Gribble said: ‘Sparkworld have been very generous in letting us use the land in Cannon Road. The council is working hard with the Youth Action Group to get the centre up and running once again.

‘We hope that eventually there will be an indoor games area, kitchen facilities and an outdoor play area with ramps and jumps for biking.

‘Getting this centre open is essential, as there is absolutely nothing for young people in Heathfield to do outside school time.’
