A previously unknown species of moth has been discovered in Hembury Woods outside Buckfastleigh.

Ectoedemia heckfordi, a micro moth with a wingspan of 6mm, has been named after the amateur naturalist who found it.

Bob Heckford, 61, a solicitor from Plymouth, says he found the moth by accident after spotting tell-tale signs of 'mines' on an oak leaf. He then found a few more of the caterpillars nearby.
