TEIGNMOUTH Museum archivists have put together an exhibition on Higher Brook Street in Teignmouth.
The exhibition about the history of this important street will be on display until the end of June.
Lin Watson, curator, says: ‘There is only a small row of houses left on Higher Brook Street.
'The development of the new road between the station and the town centre in the 1970s saw the demolition of several buildings, including houses, a school, shops and workshops.
‘Rachel Aucott and Elizabeth Rees have spent some time researching a few of the buildings that were demolished with surprising results.
‘Come to the Teign Heritage Centre to find out some of the intriguing things they have discovered about 19th-century Higher Brook Street and its inhabitants, including a long lost brewery, town criers and laundresses.
‘Their findings will be on display in the Teign Room at the centre throughout the rest of May and June,’ adds Lin.
‘They are also looking for any stories, information, and in particular photos (there are surprisingly few of them for Higher Brook Street) you may have of the street.’
Teign Heritage Centre is at 29 French Street, Teignmouth, Devon, TQ14 8ST (opposite the railway station and parking).
