A CANADA Hill Primary School, Ogwell, pupil has won a South West art award and will be joining his whole class on a residential trip as his prize.

Joey Tonkin was chosen as winner of the South West Regional School's Art Challenge, run by the Association of British Travel Agents.

The challenge invited children aged seven-to-11 to imagine their perfect holiday from the past, present and future by designing picture postcards which illustrate the evolution of travel throughout the ages.

More than 2,000 entries were received from schools across the country.

Joey won a weekend away for his class at the Hampshire Kingswood Educational Centre, donated by the centre.

On hearing of his win Joey said: 'I'm speechless. I put lots of work into my entry and I am really looking forward to telling my family.'

His design will be on display at ABTA's headquarters in London to celebrate the association's 60th anniversary and will be shown at the ABTA Annual Travel Convention in Malta in October, where it will also be made into a postcard.
