RESIDENTS protesting about a scheme to build a new Teignmouth housing estate were told by councillors: 'It could have been a lot worse.'The residents maintain that the homes adjoining Higher Exeter Road will overload already strained facilities, and lead to more traffic congestion. While members of the town council planning sub-committee were sympathetic, they emphasised that the number of new homes originally earmarked for the resort in the Teignbridge local plan, had been drastically reduced to 'only' 340 in 20 years.Neighbouring Dawlish and Newton Abbot were having to make room for many more houses than they wanted and envied Teignmouth, said the mayor, Cllr June Green, at Tuesday's Bitton House meeting.'
