A COUPLE were treated in hospital after being bitten by a runaway dog in Newton Abbot this week.

Roger and Jenny Wotton, in their 60s, grabbed the dog amid fears it would run into the busy Totnes Road off Bakers Park and cause chaos.

For their troubles they were both bitten by the dog who they accept was ‘freaked’ by their efforts to hold it back from possible disaster.

Jenny, 61, who lives in Marlborough Place, says she was ‘dripping with blood’ after the frightened animal tore into two veins in her wrist.

Husband Roger, 66, escaped relatively lightly after sustaining light bleeding from grazed knuckles.

Both stressed that they didn’t blame the dog for their injuries. They concentrated their criticism on the dog owner whose pet was running loose.
