THE number of e-scooters seized by police last year has been revealed.
Devon & Cornwall Police seized a total of 63 e-scooters in the 2024/25 financial year, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.
By comparison, 100 e-scooters were seized in 2023/24 and 133 in 2022/23.
Electrical scooters, known as e-scooters, come under the category of 'powered transporters', which covers a range of personal transport devices that are powered by a motor.
E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
This means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence and insurance.
It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters, meaning it is illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.
