AN aerial runway, obstacle course, water challenge, rifle shooting, archery, first aid skills, and map and compassing, were among the challenges facing Scouts and Guides in the annual Hurdlestone Challenge.
More than 400 youngsters, aged ten to 14 and making up more than 90 teams from around Devon, took part on the weekend of June 24, 25 and 26 in the Higher Humber area of Bishopsteignton.
They covered an eight-mile course, visiting 15 bases, each presenting a different challenge.
The overall winners were the 1st Bovey Tracey Scout Group, with 1st Buckfastleigh Guides second, and 1st Bovey District Rangers and 1st Chivenor Scouts joint third.
An adventure weekend based on the idea of having fun while testing skills of speed, agility and mind, while joining in and making new friends, it began with the Hurdlestone Camp on the Friday.
On the Saturday was the challenge itself – the teams receiving points at each challenge for their accuracy, speed, least faults and so on.
In the evening the teams relaxed and enjoyed an on-site disco.
It was fun day on the Sunday, with activities and fun and games all the way.
