The annual sale of Christmas poultry at Newton Abbot Market is on tomorrow, December 20, under the multi-storey car park in the town centre.

A spokesman for the event said: ‘The sale, which seems to get more popular each year, has attracted an entry of over 950 of the best locally farm reared turkeys, geese, chicken, ducks, partridge and pheasants to be offered anywhere.

‘Over three quarters of the birds are oven ready and the remainder are long legged for the traditional buyers.’

Selling starts at 4.30pm with the turkeys with the second auction of the other birds starting just afterwards.

The spokesman added: ‘Even with two auctions in operation selling is likely to continue well into the evening giving ample time for people to attend after finishing work.

‘With plenty of pubs and cafes in the vicinity many look upon the event as the start of their Christmas festivities.’
