Iconic tree in Doddiscombsleigh chopped down

AN enormous tree in the centre of Doddiscombsleigh was felled on the weekend, triggering an outpouring of sadness amongst a community that had grown up around it.

The tree, known to some locals as 'Bent Nevis', was felled by contractors due to disease at its base.

One resident said: 'From glorious to disaster. Such a shame.'

Another noted that it had 'been alive for longer than I have,' calling the felling a 'shame'.
