The district's sports stars of the future have won the praise of civic leaders after taking second place in a prestigious countywide competition that attracted more than 1,000 eight - 16-year-olds.
The Devon Games to Inspire initiative has for the past decade sought to celebrate physical fitness and cultural activity and is the largest junior sporting event in the county.
The project has been described as outstanding and received the London 2012 Inspire mark. On Saturday the 2011 competition was staged at Exeter University and when the results were announced it emerged that Teignbridge had come second behind Exeter.
Individual achievements included gold medals in girls' cricket for the third consecutive year and silver in gymnastics and boys' hockey.
