DENIS A LEWIS, of Broadway Road, Kingsteignton, writes:
The debate continues regarding Anne-Marie Morris’ use of the ‘N’ word. I honestly don’t believe that she set out to offend anyone. Personally, I don’t really care whether she did or didn’t.
The Conservative Party have taken their ball back and suspended her from their party. In doing so, they haven’t just punished her, but the majority of Teignbridge citizens who voted for a Tory representative in Parliament.
The world champion for making political and racist comments and gaffs is undoubtedly the Duke of Edinburgh. He has done so for most of his life and has become famous for doing so. I doubt whether he ever cared about offending anyone and I don’t remember him apologising for doing so.
Neither do I ever remember him being suspended or banned from any functions or organisations. Most people simply seem to have treated his comments with mild amusement!
Is there, therefore, one set of rules for Anne-Marie and another for ‘Phil the Greek’? Oops, there goes my knighthood!
