ALAN JENKINS, of Courtenay Place, Teignmouth, writes:
On Sunday at 10.30am I took myself to Teignmouth Beach for the first time in 2009.
Loaded with chair, picnic, book and crossword, I made myself comfortable beneath the sea wall, protected from the cool north west breeze.
It was a cloudless sky, the sun feeling quite warm. The beach was well covered in our red sand, the sea a greyish blue with pleasant 1-2ft surf.
I stayed for three hours and saw hundreds of people walking the shoreline, mainly accompanied by their dogs. It was enjoyable to see them chasing balls and jumping into the surf.
This was a thoroughly beautiful few hours, all spoilt by the continuous inane screeching sound of up to eight jet bikes going at full speed mainly between south of the pier and the sandbank. If we have eight of these riders in March, how many for our summer months ?
Maybe someone in authority will read this letter and reply as to what or if any action is taken to curb this activity.
If the answer is a line of orange marker buoys a few hundred yards off shore, I already know this does not work.
