SHALDON and District Horticultural Society has welcomed new treasurer Jim Milstead.
Members of the society were warned of a possible closure when a replacement treasurer could not be found.
Chairman Ron Cload told members the news at the annual New Year lunch at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.
Mr Milstead volunteered for the position at the lunch when it was announced that the former treasurer had decided to move to Lancashire.
Press officer Gerry Symons said: 'a willing horse had volunteered to fill the hon treasurer's office and he was saddled forthwith to collect subscriptions.'
