A SPECIAL Walk and Talk event is being organised in Dawlish for any adult who has experienced loss through cancer.

The hour and a half walk from Dawlish railway station to Dawlish Warren is being run by a charity The Loss Foundation which was set up to help those who have been bereaved by cancer.

The walk takes place on Saturday May 24, starting at 10.30am.

Walkers will be greeted by a volunteer from the charity who will be identified with a lanyard and a yellow Loss Foundation sign.

It is for over 18s, no dogs allowed, and is a chance to meet others who have similar experiences in a supportive and relaxed environment. A spokesman said: ‘This walk isn’t about fitness or speed.

‘It’s about being outdoors, meeting others, and finding comfort in shared experiences.

‘Whether you’re a seasoned walker or a total beginner, you’re very welcome.’

The Loss Foundation is the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting those bereaved by the death of a loved one from cancer.

It provides a variety of ‘grief support’ events to help those who have experienced cancer loss and create opportunities for people to connect with others who have experienced something similar.

Set up in 2008 after Dr Erin Thompson who lost her father and realised how little support was available, its mission is that no one should face cancer loss alone.

Walk and talk events are casual meet ups for those who have lost a loved one to cancer and provide a supportive space to walk, talk or just be with others who understand.
