ACTION has been taken to make a Newton Abbot development safer after months and months of campaigning.

Residents in the Hele Park development have been left jumping for joy after Persimmon Homes agreed to install traffic calming measures after a string of near-miss accidents.

Joining in with the celebrations was district councillor Phil Bullivant who started up a petition demanding for action to be taken.

He said: ‘Through traffic had increased to the point where unmarked junctions, suitable for cul-de-sacs, became dangerous crossings.

‘Residents approached me to resolve the problems. I organised a petition to establish local views and used this to bring the developer and Devon County Council together to agree a solution.

‘With the help of local residents we submitted our suggestions and they were accepted by the council and put in place by Persimmon.

‘Rather than just taling about problems we were able to make things happen!’

Contractors installed the road markings last week.
