Teignmouth and Shaldon had its first snow of the winter yesterday, but compared with other parts of the county and country, got off lightly. All the main roads were open, and most side roads were also passable with care. Traffic was flowing slowly but freely, and there were no reports of any schools being closed. Most of the snow fell on the higher slopes and there was a light covering on Teignmouth seafront and the beaches. But the hardy all-the-yearround swimmers were giving their daily dip in the briny a miss, including Cllr Sylvia Russell, who said: 'It's not so much the cold and the snow, but the sea is pretty rough with the easterly wind.'
