I reply to Neil Glasper's letter in last week's Teignmouth Post: Time for council to listen to needs of town centre.
My late wife and I ran St Mellon's in Orchard Gardens for nearly 19 years and unfortunately decided to close the business down in 2003, once the Co-op supermarket and the new fire station were built, nearly 200 car parking spaces.
What happened to the £44,000 which I understand was handed over to redevelop parts of Teignmouth? No doubt it has been frittered away somewhere.
We found it very difficult to continue. We fought hard and long but no-one would listen.
There was a suggestion to double deck Teign Street car park but nothing came of that.
Car parking has been in short supply for ages. Take a look round the town and see how many places are left which take visitors – you would be surprised.
All I can say to Mr Glasper is good luck with your fight.
Incidentally, why are motorists allowed to park free in Newton Abbot car parks on Sundays when you have to pay to park in Teignmouth?THIS AND OTHER LETTRS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
