RUNNER Kevin Matthews is training hard before taking part in one of the toughest charity challenges.br>Kevin, 44 from Dawlish, is part of a five-strong team who will be tackling the gruelling 10k Marine Commando Challenge.br>His training schedule ahead of the event on October 9 at Bicton Park involves running around the many hills in Dawlish to get in shape for the ordeal.br>He said: 'I have done some research so I know what I am letting myself in for.br>'The challenge involves various stages of run and includes an obstacle course through swamps and muddy ponds as well as a water filled tunnel which I am not looking forward to.'br>His fellow team members are staff at the emergency department of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital called the ED Casualties.br>They are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the challenge's two charities, the Devon Air Ambulance and the C Group supporting Royal Marines, which helps the rehabilitation and re-integration of injured Royal Marines.br>Kevin, a care and support worker at Windsor Drive residential care home, Exeter Road, said: 'These are two amazing charities and we want to raise as much money as we can.br>'Everyone is being very generous.'br>Anyone who would like to sponsor Kevin can contact him on 07976 847489.br>l Picture and story first published in the Dawlish Gazette, September 7.
