This encounter was never going to be a classic – and it wasn't!
The conditions saw to that – heavy underfoot ruled out any chance of a running game, couple that with the determination of the home side who, having not played for a number of weeks, were chomping at the bit to get at the All Whites.
Within five minutes of the start the hosts were in front, courtesy of a chip through which saw winger Jones ground for the home team. They did not manage the conversion nor the penalty awarded moments later, and this was to prove costly for Yatton.
The All Whites slowly got into their stride, playing the percentages well, although they were made to fight all the way by a dogged team who don't know when to lie down.
A couple of Joe Burford penalties got the All Whites' noses in front at the break.
When play restarted the conditions really tested both sides. With the score delicately balanced at 6-5 to the Devonians, it was a test of nerve as to who came away with the points.
Eventually something had to give, and another penalty by Burford eased the All Whites into a bigger lead, before despatching another to make it 12-5.
Rich Hewitt entered the fray with ten minutes to go and made his presence known with the last penalty of the day to make the final score 15-5 to the All Whites, a result coach Phil Burford would gladly have taken before kick-off.
Burford said: 'Sometimes you just have to win ugly and this was one of those games. Although we like to play an expansive game, we just knew we would have to come and fight for every blade of grass today.'
The win means the All Whites stay hot on the heels of Avonmouth Old Boys, who scraped home against a resurgent St Mary's Old Boys in the Bristol derby game.
Avonmouth travel to Rackerhayes tomorrow and the All Whites will be looking to win as the race for the play-off place hots up.
The club urge supporters to turn up for what promises to be another cracker, remembering the All Whites won up at Avonmouth by a slim 8-5 margin.
