Ann Jones, of Orleigh Avenue, Newton Abbot, writes:

I regularly use the multi-storey car park in Newton Abbot, as do many who work, shop and visit the town.

On a regular basis the the lift is out of order and the only way you discover this fact is when you have actually parked your car and go to the lift, which then has a small sign on it and the buttons are covered up with tape.

It would be helpful to have a sign at the bottom of the entrance ramp to let those who want to use this car park aware.

My next point is that Newton Abbot is trying to 'regenerate' itself – but until that happens something needs to be done about the sets of stairs at either end of the car park. I know that the middle set of stairs to the ground are generally all right to use but those on the ends of the buildings are absolutely disgusting; they stink of urine, excrement (sometimes), and a myriad of other smells which I cannot describe.

I know that you can use the middle stairs, but sometimes it is nearer for people to use these other stairs. I also accept that there are lifts across the bridge from level 2, but this is not always convenient.

I have met visitors to the town who have used these stairs and been utterly disgusted by the state of them. If this is their first time in the town, what does it say about Newton Abbot?

I am always amazed that on driving into the car park at 9am every morning, there are quite a few Environmental Services vans parked there. Why can't these people be doing something about these stairs? if they were done thoroughly once, it wouldn't take much to clean them down every week, would it?

Come on Teignbridge, do something about it, make our town a pleasant- smelling place to come to.
