ARTWORK created by school children from Kingskerswell has been hung in its rightful place, on the wall in their school’s hall.

Pupils in Year 6 at Kingskerswell Primary School took part in an art project funded by The Helen Foundation, which donated £400 to the project, a community grant from The Arts Society Teignbridge and other donations besides.

The funding was used to pay for an artist from Daisi, which is a leading art education charity working throughout Devon.

Their project was to work with the artist from Daisi to produce mosaic shields representing the four houses that pupils and staff are grouped into during their school careers.

The houses are named after beaches in the local area being Goodrington, Meadfoot, Babbacombe and Hollocombe.

There is a fifth shield sectioned to represent a segment from each of the four other shields and the concept of a united school.

The designs were a result of a competition held in the school. Year 6 pupils then translated the designs into mosaic shields.

The children reported feeling proud to have produced artwork that will be hung in the school hall where it will be viewed by all pupils, staff, parents and other visitors.

The Arts Society Teignbridge supports a range of activities annually, through its Young Arts Initiative.

As well as supporting youngsters in the arts, the Society has a range of talks from October to June, as well as a special interest day at Buckfast Abbey.

This September they have the award-winning thriller writer and broadcaster for the BBC, Sarah Dunant speaking on the subject of Women in Italian Renaissance, Art and Society.

The day is open to non-members, all information and booking forms can be found on the society’s website
