On Sunday communities all over the country gather at war memorials to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in service of their country in two world wars.
This year’s commemoration is perhaps all the more poignant, coming as it does just six days after the centenary of one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War – Passchendaele.
