HOUSING association tenant John Read is struggling with broken kitchen units and a dangerous trip hazard on his floor, and says his landlord is ignoring his plight.

Teign Housing said they have moved his replacement kitchen forward to 2017/18, but Ashburton mayor Cllr John Nutley, who has visited the property, said that’s too long to wait.

John Read, of Home Park, Ashburton, has been registered disabled since 1984 with severe rheumatoid arthritis, and now also has osteoporosis.

The 69-year-old former chef said, despite countless complaints to his landlord, his kitchen is a danger zone.

He said: ‘It’s all falling apart in here and I’ve got a trip hazard sticking out the middle of the floor.’
