Six of Newton's teams have been in action on the courts, with only the firsts having a free week.
The ladies' teams both produced positive results.
Newton firsts beat D & E 2 to put themselves in second place in the league, though they have played more games than the teams around them.
Dawn Widdicombe received a walkover at 5 as D & E travelled with just four players. Lauren Theaker lost in three to Suzie Morgan, while Emma Thomas was on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline in a long match with Nat Densham.
Anne Scott brought Newton Abbot back into the tie as she was on the right end of an equally long five-setter with Vikki Ritchie before top string Claire Simmonds sealed victory, comfortably beating Karen Bealey 3-0.
Completing the week, a Paignton side missing top two Jackie Wills and Annie Ley proved no match for Newton's seconds. Katie Scott, Rose Wood, Jane Parmenter and Denise Corby all won 3-0 while Paignton's top string Alison Samuels gave the visitors their only points as she beat Lauren Theaker in five.
Newton men's seconds were at Exmouth, who were fielding a weakened team which allowed the visitors to sneak a tight match 3-2. Kevin Smart, Steve Morrall and Rob Salmon all won 3-0, but there were defeats for Rob Muddeman, 1-3, and top string Andy Maker, 2-3.
Torquay 5 played host to Newton's third team which resulted in a 4-1 (18-6) win for the visitors. Ian Davies and Shaun Mutton both recorded 3-0 wins over Paul Benney and Steve Hill respectively, and Mark Hedge beat Dan Yeoman in four. Steve Lewis continued his return to fitness with a five-set struggle against Martin Brook, Lewis winning the decider 15-4 as the Torquay man ran out of steam. In a battle of the Lukes at the top of the order, Ruderham suffered Newton's only defeat of the night, going down in four tight games to Tanner.
Newton fourths entertained a strong Dartington 3, who were bolstered by the inclusion of Kevan Throgmorton.
Andy Nelson drew first blood for the visitors, beating Kevin Lammacraft in three, while the battle of the fourth strings was curtailed as Newton's Tom Reynolds injured his ankle in the fourth game, the match going to Ian Bailey 17-14, 15-17, 17-15, 15-4. Dartington then confirmed victory as Dave Ansley beat Roy Darlington in four.
Harry Millyard at two and top string Martin Hember did put points on the board for Newton Abbot as both scored consolation wins – Millyard beating Pete Exley in five after holding a 2-0 lead then allowing Exley to take it to a decider, which ended up 17-15 to the home player. Hember beat Throgmorton in four.
The fifths travelled to Okehampton with a weakened team as regular Claire Simmonds took her place in the ladies' team. Stepping in at the last minute, Paul Lennox lost in three to Sue Stanbury, 15-17 8-15, 13-15, while fourth string Matt Thomas was beaten in three.
The fifths levelled the match with wins from Ed Lloyd and James Cooper, which left the tie to be decided by the number ones.
Home player Ed Bewes took the first 17-15, but Aiden Hyland started to read his game and dropped and lobbed his way to a 2-1 lead. This forced a change of tactics from Bewes who blasted his way through a 15-4 fourth to level the exciting game. He then proceeded to take the fifth as Hyland managed to serve out a number of times, not a good thing in American scoring, giving the home team a 3-2 (15-8) win.
