NEWTON Abbot town centre was bursting with excitement on Wednesday night as more than 150 pupils from the town’s eight primary schools displayed their colourful Christmas lanterns.

The children from Bearnes, Decoy, Haytor View, Wolborough, All Saints, Bradley Barton, Highweek and St Joseph’s primary schools paraded their creations through the streets of the town before finishing at the clock tower.

This year’s theme was animals from around the world, with rhinos, pandas, orangutans and giraffes taking part in the event.

As well as the lantern parade, the streets were alive with people hopping from stall to stall, all trying to bag themselves a bargain or a treat.
