The clock is ticking for local sportspeople and volunteers, with nominations for the prestigious Teignbridge Sports Personality Awards 2011 set to close next Friday.

Among those eligible for nomination are athletes, teams, officials, teachers and volunteers from all across the Teignbridge district.

Event organiser Teignbridge Council has received nearly 50 nominations so far, but is still accepting submissions. It is particularly keen to hear about the successes of people who have helped promote or provide services to encourage health and physical activity in the last year.

Nominations can be made on the form printed on page 79 of this paper or online at http://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/sportspersonality2011">www.teignbridge.gov.uk/sportspersonality2011 or other nomination forms that are available at local leisure centres throughout Teignbridge.

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, November 18, at the Langstone Cliff Hotel in Dawlish Warren.

Cllr George Gribble, Teignbridge executive spokesman for communities, recreation and leisure said: 'There's no time to be shy. If you know someone who has made a contribution to sport, physical activity and health in Teignbridge we'd love to hear from you. We know that there are a tremendous number of athletes, coaches, clubs and volunteers doing great work, and we'd like to see them recognised by their families, friends and peers with a Sports Personality nomination.

'With 14 award categories there's something to recognise all kinds of involvement with sports and general health across the district.

'If you know a deserving candidate, please don't hesitate to nominate them.'
