Ashburton woman Laura Penfold will be able to hit the shops in style when she visits New York this week, after winning £250 in a talent competition.Miss Penfold, who entered Ashburton's Got Talent at Ashburton Town Hall on Saturday night, wowed a panel of judges with her rendition of the Brian Adams' classic track Heaven.'I never expected to win at all,' said Miss Penfold, a receptionist at the Passage House Hotel, Kingsteignton. 'I am off to New York, so this money will come in handy.'The former South Dartmoor Community College student, who also celebrated her 21st birthday this week, said she had not sung in public in a long time.
