A SOLICITORS firm in Newton Abbot have drummed up more than £1,300 for three charities with a gruelling rowathon.
Sarah Finn and Dan Pollard, from QualitySolicitors Dunn and Baker rowed a total of 26 miles each from May 20 until 26.
The pair, based at the solicitors’ Queen Street base, then teamed up with colleagues and family at the end of the week to row another 26 miles in just three hours and 10 minutes.
All of the money will be shared out between Rowcroft Hospice, Dreams and Wishes and Dame Hannah Rogers Trust.
Firm partner Sarah said: ‘There are some sore limbs in the office, but it’s been well worth it to see how much support there has been for these important community initiatives.
‘We would like to thank everyone who donated, came to our office on Sunday for the penultimate row to cheer us on, sent messages of support and Newton Abbot Leisure Centre for lending us a rowing machine.’
The dedicated fundraisers are still pushing to meet their cash targets of £1,000 for each important charity.
Dan, an associate solicitor, explained: ‘It has been so rewarding being a part of this challenge and to see just how giving our networks and community are. We are thrilled with what we have been able to raise so far, but we haven’t quite hit our fundraising targets yet. We are making a final plea and asking people to really dig deep.’
Dreams and Wishes is a charity Dan and his family hold close to their hearts as his son was diagnosed with leukaemia in February last year.
He added: ‘They have been amazing and an invaluable source of support to my son and my family during this time and so I wanted the chance to bring this to people’s attention and raise some money for this fantastic charity.’
Dunn and Baker’s senior partner Nick Penwell said: ‘As a firm we understand the importance of being healthy both physically and mentally, especially with the pressures we face these days, so it is particularly pleasing to see so many members of staff embracing this challenge and raising vital funds for these worthy charities.’
