LETTING property in Teignbridge will the subject of a fact-finding evening hosted by the district authority in Newton Abbot next week.

Private landlords, property investors and owners of empty homes are invited to the free open evening tomorrow.

Matters covered will include all areas of buy-to-let, bringing together experts and industry providers under one roof at Old Forde House in Brunel Road from 4.30pm to 8.30pm.

The get-together comes as the market expands and the Government legislates to improve management standards and the safety of tenanted properties.

A wide range of industry experts will be present to provide advice on all aspects of the letting business.

There will also be bite-size talks from industry professionals covering, tax advice, legal pitfalls, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations), Universal Credit and advice on risk control from the exposure to Legionella bacteria found in water systems.

Since 2013 more than 600 local landlords have attended similar events, gaining vital knowledge to keep their business up to date and free of potential pitfalls.

Free parking and refreshments are provided, and there is no need to book.

Cllr Humphrey Clemens, Teignbridge Council’s executive for housing and planning, said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for Teignbridge landlords of all experiences to learn about letting property.

‘It’s great to see such expertise all meeting under one roof, giving landlords the chance to have their questions answered, pick up useful tips and ask for any specific advice, including important legal responsibilities as these are constantly changing.’
