Bovey Tracey Lions produced a great performance against Waldon to win the Pioneer Youth League U14s' Plate.
The Lions took a while to settle in the final, which was played at the Recreation Ground, Newton Abbot on Sunday, in front of a crowd of around 200.
Waldon were battling hard, but when Luke Reidlinger was fouled on the edge of the box up stepped Sam Harris to fire home the resulting free kick from 20 yards to put the Bovey boys ahead.
The goal settled the Lions. They moved into top gear with some free flowing football and were rewarded with further goals from Ollie Clifford Bourne and Pat Hicks.
With Matt Churchill's resolute defensive performance and the rocks which are James Lockwood and Christian Fleet proving impossible to pass, Waldon found it hard to create any chances, and goals from Nathan Trott and the excellent Will Christophers saw Lions to a comfortable 5-0 lead at the break.
Half-time substitutions saw Adam Seedhouse-Evans take over in goal from Jack Purdy, Liam Payne coming to play left wing and Alfie Newman slotting in at right back.
Waldon continued to battle hard, with great defending and good goalkeeping keeping the Lions at bay until Trott won the ball in the box and coolly slotted home from an acute angle.
Clifford-Bourne and Hicks added to the total to make the final score 8-0.
Player of the match was Orrin Yaniv-Durrant, who was rock solid at the centre of the Lions' defence.
After the game, the trophy was presented to Lions' captain Tom Bishop.MORE SPORT IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
