A resident (name supplied), of Bickford Lane, Teignmouth writes:
I would like to follow up on the recent letter by Barry Rodwell concerning the run down and shabby state of Teignmouth (Teignmouth Post, October 7).
We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful area but it really saddens me every day when I see the amount of litter strewn around our streets not to mention the weeds in every road since Teignbridge supposedly ran out of money to even spray the roadsides due to Government cutbacks.
Part of the problem is the failure to empty the waste bins particularly in The Triangle which are heavily used.
We live in a town which relies on tourism and yet we present ourselves to the world as shabby and seemingly non caring.
We cannot even provide a Tourist Information Bureau which is a huge mistake by Teignbridge.
Mr Rodwell mentions Bickford Lane and I have volunteered to keep the top half of the lane weed free and tidy and I know that neighbours further down the lane frequently clear rubbish as the lane is very busy with shoppers visiting Waitrose and Wetherspoon. The manager of Waitrose has agreed to a weekly pick-up of litter. We need to show we care about our town.
I fully endorse Mr Rodwell’s suggestion and if each street could find two or three volunteers I really think it would make a difference.
