ASHBURTON’S independent shops are taking part in the Totally Locally National ‘Fiver Fest’ between June 12 to 26.

To show the importance of supporting our high streets, Ashburton is joining in with more than 100 Independent High Streets across the UK, to put on special £5 offers across the two weeks in June.

During this time, participating businesses will be offering a range of special offers and discounted items for £5 to showcase the variety of local shops and their products.

Lydia Wood, chair of Ashburton Chamber of Trade, said: ‘Look out for the posters in the shop windows. Totally Locally aims to encourage people to think differently about how they shop and show that little changes can mean a lot to small businesses.

‘Research has shown that if every adult in the UK spent £5 a week in their local independent shops instead of online or with multi-national companies an eye watering £13.5 billion a year would go back into towns.

‘Supporting local businesses is even more important than ever after how our world has changed during the last year,’ says Lydia.

‘YouGov research has shown that 59% of shoppers have used more local shops during lockdown – and they want to keep on supporting them. Fiver Fest makes that even easier!

Lydia added: ‘Fiver Fest is now a big part of our promotions for Ashburton. The independent shops and businesses are what makes our town special and unique.

‘The community support for local businesses has been amazing during lockdown, so these offers are to say thank you to customers, and to highlight the great value and economic impact of shopping locally.’
