The Freemasons of Newton Abbot are to hold an open door event on Saturday (September 13) to improve understanding of what they do.

‘We are trying to raise our profile and spread the word about who we are and what we do and to answer any questions or dispel any myths,’ a spokesperson explained.

Devon Lodge 1138 in Newton Abbot is part of the national Masonic Charity Foundation, which has donated around £50 million through grants to charities over the last decade.

Unlike Rotary, Freemasons don’t go around fundraising via the general public, the funds raised are mostly generated through the generous donations of members themselves.

The Open Door event takes place between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday September 13 at The Masonic Hall on Devonshire Square in Newton Abbot.
