Baron Hattersley of Sparbrook, better known to many as Labour politician Roy Hattersley, will be in Newton Abbot tomorrow to take part in the beating of the bounds. The former deputy leader of the party will be greeted by Lord of the Manorial Borough of Newton Abbot, Keith Stokes-Smith, before setting out on the centuries old perambulation. Teignbridge MP Richard Younger Ross will join the walk, which will start at Bearnes School, Queen Street, at 1.30pm, after a lunch with several of the town's dignitaries including the mayor, Cllr Daphne Watts. Commenting on the visit, Keith Stokes-Smith, said: 'We are so pleased that Lord Hattersley could join us on the walk. 'It is an historic occasion to have a former deputy leader to visit the town and to participate in an equally historic event.' Later in the day, Lord Hattersley will be the guest of Exeter councillor Saxon Spence, the leader of the Labour grouping on the county council, when he will attend the Red Ramblers dinner.
