A MAN accused of shoplifting in Austins store in Newton Abbot and assaulting a woman there appeared before South and West Devon Magistrates' Court.

Christopher Scott, aged 47, of Warren Road, Torquay, is charged with stealing three Superdry jackets from Austins storeson November 2 last year.

He was further charged with stealing three Superdry jackets and a Superdry jumper, worth £288, from Austins on February17 of this year.

He is also charged with assaulting a woman by beating in the store on February 17.

The case was adjourned until April 17 and he was granted unconditional bail.
