A YOUNG Newton Abbot man has been remanded in custody after a violent incident near town’s multi-storey car park over the holiday weekend.
Sam Trendell, 22, of Windsor Avenue on the Buckland estate, appeared before Plymouth magistrates on Monday charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The casualty, who has not been named, was rushed to Plymouth’s Derriford Hopsital for treatment to serious injuries after a disturbance in Sherborne Road in the early hours of Sunday.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene where an area around the cattle market was sealed off and later examined by forensic experts.
A spokesman said this week: ‘We were notified of a disturbance at the cattle market on Sunday May 6 at around 2.45am following reports of an alleged incident of assault.’
The accused was remanded in custody pending a hearing at Exeter Crown Court on June 8.
