RUMOURS that Devonia Products is planning to move from its Buckfastleigh base to integrate its operations with Buckfast Spinning Mill have been quashed.
But Devonia's general manager Geoff Woods said that it is one of several options under consideration and probably made long-term sense.
There has been a commercial tannery on the large site bounded by Chapel Street and Market Street for some 200 years. While other commercial tanneries have gone to the wall, Devonia Products has managed to hang on.
It is now the last commercial sheepskin tannery in the country and uses traditional methods to process some 40,000 skins a year.
