Mr M Giddings, of Newton Abbot writes:
Last week letter writer A Morley questioned the provision of a cycle/pedestrian path from Barton Drive to Mile End.
At 70 and with a heart problem I regularly cycle into town to do shopping and I can carry a lot back in my rucksack. On the return it’s uphill all the way!
Consequently, I do not contribute either to the congestion or pollution on Ashburton Road.
It keeps me fit and potentially less of a burden to the NHS than if I was less active.
I only retired three years ago after cycling to and from work for years.
Sorry to say this, but when I look around Newton Abbot there are a lot of people who could benefit from using a cycle or their legs for short journeys rather than their vehicles.
