Bovey Tracey's civic leader says health chiefs got their priorities wrong after her council learned about the closure of the town's hospital inpatient beds through the media.

Mayor Cllr Avril Kerswell said the people of Bovey had paid for the facility and they should be told when such developments occurred.

Torbay (and Southern Devon) Care Trust, which took control of the 12-bed unit on April 1, last week announced it had 'significant concerns' about issues including drug administration so had temporarily transferred care to Newton Abbot.

The information was contained in a statement sent to news organisations.
