A former company director from Ideford whose traditional efforts to find work have come to nothing has taken his search to the streets.

Michael Adlington, 51, this week took a leaf out of former Tory employment minister Norman Tebbit's book and went looking for a job.

But instead of getting on his bike he opted for a more comfortable drive into Kingsteignton where he stood outside the racecourse with a billboard.

It said: 'Former company director requires employment now,' and described his qualities as determined, resilient, reliable and talented.

'Anything considered,' it added.

Mr Adlington, originally from Bradford, served in the Army as a young man and later worked as an engineer.

A decade ago he founded a social care company and within eight years was employing 124 people.

He sold the business two years ago to take a career
