MOTORISTS in Newton Abbot are in for more headaches as the final stages of the south Devon link road get underway.

Highways engineers say an essential diversion is likely to cause disruption to road users, particularly at peak times.

The diversion near to Hanson’s Quarry entrance and Aller roundabout is required to enable work to take place which needs completing before opening the new road.

It will take all Newton Abbot northbound traffic off the existing A380 at the new Aller roundabout, through the Langford junction, on to a section of the new road, over the railway and on towards Penn Inn roundabout.

Traffic will be directed around the new twin roundabouts on Kingskerswell Road and rejoin the A380 near the new sign gantry by Hanson’s Quarry entrance via the new dual carriageway on-slip.

Drivers are being advised to adjust travel times and routes where possible during peak times.

The diversion, which will be put in place from Monday, November 23, will be in place until the opening of the new dual carriageway in December.

During Saturday and Sunday, the extended Aller Brake Road link to the Hanson’s Quarry will be closed for resurfacing.

Local residents will be directed to use the access points on to St Marychurch Road during the short-term closure.

A spokesman for Devon County Council said: ‘Contractors Galliford Try has announced the next phase of works which will impact on road users travelling towards Newton Abbot.

‘Devon County Council and Torbay Council, along with Galliford Try are thanking all road users and residents for their continued patience as the project enters the critical final phase of activity before opening to traffic.

‘This phase of traffic management is likely to cause disruption to road users, particularly at peak times.

‘It is also particularly dependent on good weather so precise dates cannot be given at this time.’

Diversion routes will be signposted and advance notices will be in place to advise road users.

Regular updates will be posted on the website www.southdevonlinkroad.co.uk.
