DOZENS of sheep staged a brief road hold-up at Ipplepen this afternoon after straying on to the main route between Newton Abbot and Totnes.

Police were alerted when the wandering woolly wonders ventured on to the carriageway just before 3pm near the turn-off to the Animals in Distress Centre.

They were quickly rounded up and guided into a nearby field before officers could be called to shift the blanket invasion.

One of many delayed motorists, Tracey Hughes, said from the scene: ‘I think they enjoyed their excursion. The road was rammed! And they left lots of little presents all over the place for us. My wheels were covered in them.’

A police spokesman said a 999 call was received at 2.53pm.

‘They left soon afterwards. It was baaaaad behaviour,’ he said.
