TEIGNBRIDGE MP Richard Younger-Ross swapped the House of Commons for a touring caravan on Friday when he visited Dornafield Holiday Park, Ipplepen, to mark British Tourism Week. His visit coincided with hundreds more made by dignitaries nationwide as Visit Britain, with the backing of its patron, the Prince of Wales, endeavours to raise awareness of Britain's £74billion tourism economy. Speaking of his visit, he said: 'Part of my role as the Lib Dem spokesman for culture, media and sport is tourism and I was delighted to be invited to Dornafield to see how their hard work is paying off. 'Holiday parks like these account for a large percentage of the total holiday beds in the country and make a huge contribution to the local economy and tourism generally.' Dornafield caters for 130 touring caravans and attracts visitors, many from Holland, with its five-star tourist board rating and David Bellamy conservation award. Part of the site boasts ancient coppiced woodland and is a designated county wildlife site. Future plans include a ground-breaking project to recover heat from an underground water system.
