The streets of Teignmouth were alive with mythical beasts and beating drums on Saturday (November 1) as the Folk Preservation Society brought a Samhain dusking ceremony and parade to the town.

The annual festival, which has its roots in Celtic tradition, marks the end of the summer and welcomes in the dark months of winter.

An array of costumed beasts, including horses and birds, masked beings, percussionists and local folk joined the procession from Fore Street. The parade continued through the town centre and along the seafront to the back beach for sunset and a short ceremony to remember those who have returned to the earth.

‘Today is a turning point where we say a fond farewell to the summer and we embrace, wholeheartedly, the winter and the dark months to come,’ said Folk Preservation Society co-founder Amerie Rose.
