An advertisement inside your front page last week may have given a false impression of the state of our NHS emergency heart treatment today.

We are very fortunate to have, since December 2003, one of the finest cardiac units in the country at Torbay.

In June 2007, an ambulance arrived at my shop in Teignmouth within three minutes of receiving a phone call.

The paramedics confirmed that I was having a heart attack, administered life saving drugs and got me to the Torbay Heart Unit at high speed. The treatment there was second to none, with utmost kindness, skill and efficiency, and I was out a week later with a reconditioned heart.

I cannot praise the paramedics, cardiac unit and the amazing angio-lab team highly enough.

Their names are, naturally, engraved on my heart.
