JOHN?SMITH, of First Drive, Teignmouth, writes:

One of Teignbridge Council's great successes of the last couple of years must have been the creation of the skateboard park on the sea front in Teignmouth. Residents seem reassured and children and adults alike seem to get great pleasure from the facility – it is a development that everybody in Teignmouth can be proud of.

I am far too old for skateboarding, but walk past the skateboard area very frequently and am always delighted to see the patient way in which the youngsters share their use of what is, at times, a very crowded, fast moving area. I think that in particular the older young people – the teenagers – deserve to be complimented for their forbearance.

The time has probably come, however, to plan for the area to be enlarged – for safety's sake, if no other.

At the lighthouse end there is a rectangle of paved area that seems never to be used and at the other are the out-of-use toilets that would, with surface demolition and some re-contouring, make a wonderful bowl for the more adventurous.

Without doubt there need to be 'easier' facilities for the very young and something more demanding for those with more advanced skills.

The leaders of Teignbridge Council have done well, with partners, to build this facility – I hope that the current administration can continue with this success and undertake its expansion. I am confident that Teignmouth residents would support the further initiative.THIS AND OTHER LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
