NEWTON Abbot Community Transport has been presented with a new wheelchair-accessible Peugeot Boxer worth £25,000 by Newton Abbot Hospital League of Friends.

The vehicle, visible proof of the league’s on-going fundraising efforts, was handed over outside Newton Abbot Hospital last month.

Volunteer driver Derek Honeywill and community transport manager Kay Yendall, were there to receive the keys.

The new minibus means that members will not only be able to be dropped-off to medical appointments, but also social gatherings and shopping and exercise classes.

Ms Yendall said: ‘Thanks to the wonderful league of friends and their tireless fundraising, Newton Abbot Community Transport has another wheelchair-friendly vehicle, offering passengers more opportunities to join in with the community.’

In the last 12 months, the group travelled 96,444 miles, equivalent to going around the world almost four times.
