COMMUNITY groups have come forward to help restore a children's wildlife garden.
Youngsters, parents and governors have been working hard on the wildlife haven at Inverteign School, Teignmouth, for the past 18 months. They have restored a pond, cut back brambles and sowed wildflower seeds but were held back in their project by a lack of funds. Now the wildlife has been given a place to stay thanks to a donation of six bat boxes, 18 bird boxes, an owl box, bird table and a hedgehog hotel, courtesy of South Devon birds. Others have also stepped forward to donate a picnic table, petrol trimmer and safety netting so that the children can use it as an outdoor classroom. The volunteers and youngsters were full of praise for the generous support and are meeting weekly to continue their hard work. Organiser Jean Gitsham said: 'New volunteers are always welcome. 'It is a delightful way to spend a morning in the fresh air.' Future plans including a new path so that all visitors, including the disabled, can enjoy the area.
